justwrite.lol is a private-first platform. this means anything you write is set to private by default. you have to opt into publicly sharing it for it be readable by others across the platform.

we give you a secure place to store it, but you will always retain full rights to anything you write on here. we don‘t use your writing to train any artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

data we don‘t collect

when you sign up, we don‘t ask for your real name, address, phone number, or any of your other personal information.

data we do collect

we ask for an email address, username and password to use as your login, and to confirm you‘re a real person. additionally, your email is used to fetch and display your user profile picture via Gravatar (if you use it). your email address is not displayed anywhere on the platform, and we will never share it with anyone (unless lawfully ordered), or use it to send you marketing or promotional emails.

there are optional details on your profile you can provide, such as a nickname (real or fake), pronouns, website, and bio. these are completely optional, and are only used to display on your profile and underneath your posts.

anonymous analytics are collected to see where visitors come from and how they use the platform. this helps us improve usability, track performance, and make informed decisions about the direction of the platform.

session data and cookies

we use cookies to store your display preferences (serif font, dark mode and nsfw toggles), and to manage your login session. no other cookies are used.

any writing you do on our platform is stored locally in your browser while you work on it, so you don‘t lose progress unexpectedly. this uses a technology called “local storage”, which (as the name suggests) is local to your browser and not viewable by our server. we only store your content on our server after you click “publish”.
